Geraldine (Gerry) Shipton from Westchester, IL passed away peacefully in her beautiful summer residence in Chipita Park, CO on July 25th, 2018.


Gerry was born in Hutchinson, KS on May 10, 1929. Throughout her 89 years she touched many lives. She brought her love of beauty to others through teaching art in both elementary and high schools. She also guided the spirits of many children and families during the 12 years she served as  the Director of Religious Education at he Unitarian Church of Hinsdale, IL.  She spent her summers traveling to Colorado sharing adventures with her family.  Gerry loved exploring Colorado’s hiking trails, bird watching, collecting interesting rocks, painting and working in her zero-scape garden.


Gerry’s most important focus was to her family. She is survived by Jerry Shipton, her husband of 67 years, three daughters Sue Ann Nemanich (Robert), Elizabeth Hensel (Charles), and Pamela Fodor (Jay), seven grandchildren, Anna and James Nemanich, Andrew and William Woods, Claire and Iain Shipton and Emma Fodor and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and her son Steven Shipton (Julie).


A memorial Service will be held at The Unitarian Church of Hinsdale, Il on September 22, 2018 at 11:00am. Memorial donations may be made to the religious education department of The Unitarian Church of Hinsdale, IL. located at 17 W. Maple, Hinsdale, IL 60521.


Gerry’s zest for life will continue on through the hands of her family. They will lovingly work to carry on the spirit of adventure, beauty, kindness and love that she shared with them.

My heart hurts for you all and I will miss her very very much. But know she is now with people she loves and has missed. You didn't "lose" her. She is always with you.
