In loving memory Mom and Dad

Dylan Michael LeGrande, son of Pam and Kevin, died unexpectedly the evening of May 4, 2017 in Woodland Park, Colorado at 20 years old. Dylan was born on February 16, 1997 in Jefferson County, Colorado.

Dylan was kind, empathetic, and very humble. He was generous to everyone, particularly the vulnerable. He had endless patience with children and peers in need. He took special consideration with those who were the smallest or needed the most intensive care. He loved animals, and this lead him to adopt Canela, his dog. He also volunteered frequently at Safe Place for Pets in Manitou Springs.

Dylan ran cross country track where he placed well in many competitions, winning several awards at his school. He was a fan of Oklahoma University’s football team, and played football himself, including one championship season. He loved woodwork and metalwork and frequently gave away these handmade gifts to his friends and family.  Dylan treasured tinkering and always had many inventive projects underway.

Dylan graduated from Woodland Park High School in 2016. He was set to enroll at Pikes Peak Community college this fall to continue technical coursework. Dylan worked at the Woodland Park Safeway. He enjoyed doing wilderness conservation work for the Mile-High Youth Core. He loved supporting his family and friends in every way possible, including helping many of his neighbors with landscaping, household repairs, and pet-sitting.

In addition to his parents, Kevin and Pam, Dylan is survived by his brother and sister, Fred and Rachel Makelky, as well as, nieces, Sierra and Willow, and nephew, Caleb.  Aunts Kay, Stacey, Machell, and Sylvia; as well as, Uncles Greg, Brad, Kevin, and Alan; plus, cousins Jason, John, Derek, Tyler, Taylor, Landry, Hayden, Tristan, Gareth, and Allegra survive him. He is also survived by grandparents Larry and Royston and predeceased by grandparents Betty and Phyllis.

The celebration of Dylan’s life will be held in Memorial Park (Woodland Park, CO) at 10.30am on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. We will gather in the covered outside pavilion.

We ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Dylan’s name to Safe Place 4 Pets, the charity in Manitou Springs where Dylan volunteered. (719-359-0201; www.safeplacepets.org)

To Kevin, Pam, and family,

My heart is heavy for you all, and there are no words enough to express my sadness for your loss. I had the honor of volunteering with Dylan at Safe Place, and I feel that every word written here is what I had known of him; kindness, generosity, a gentleness. Especially for the animals. May you find some comfort in knowing that along with myself, Dylan touched the lives of dozens of volunteers and animals, in wonderful ways.
