Elizabeth Thomas Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Joan Moose (Thomas) was born March 13, 1947 in Oak Park, IL and passed away quietly at home in Florissant, CO November 12, 2019 from complications due to Parkinson’s Disease.

Betty was highly educated attending Purdue University and then graduating with an Associate Degree in Management, Real Estate and Marketing from The Community College of Denver. She also received a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.

As a kid and into her adult life, Betty loved the outdoors and spent time hiking and biking. She also loved working with kids. After high school, she started her first entrepreneurial venture with Kitty Kreme Ice Cream, serving ice cream to kids in her neighborhood.

Betty relocated to Colorado in the 1970s. She opened an antique store in Morrison, CO. She used her education and became the first female building inspector for the City of Golden, CO. She also built her own home with those talents. Betty then spent 28 years at Adolph Coors in Golden as the building and maintenance supervisor.  She played the Easter Bunny a number of years, hopping to over 20 homes of fellow employees with Easter baskets for their kids.

She retired to her home, the Curtis Homestead, located in Slater Creek, Florissant to fulfill a childhood dream to own a ranch, ride horses, enjoy her love of animals and to be near nature.

Betty’s loves included Shavano Wyckoff, her boyfriend of 12 years. Her motto was “Animals First” and she filled her days with horses, dogs, travel and camping. Betty was a lifetime member of Ute Pass Kiwanis, Pikes Peak Historical Society, Florissant Grange and Friends of the Library in Florissant. She supported local Kids programs, Easter Bunny egg hunts and animal rescues.

Shavano and her friends and family would like to thank everyone for their support over the past few years and to her caregivers for their compassion and care. They ask that you enjoy a piece of chocolate in her memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 14, 2020 at 445 Shavano Creek Trail, Florissant from 12 to 4, with the ceremony at 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Ute Pass-Woodland Park Kiwanis Christmas Kids Program P. O. Box 1020 Woodland Park, Colorado 80866.
