Douglas Hastings Obituary

Douglas Jay Hastings

Doug was my husband and best friend for 30 years. He was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on October 18th,1962. He passed away from an enlarged heart and complications from C.O.P.D. on the evening of October 6th,2019.  Doug graduated from Coronado High School in 1981 and attended Colorado Technical College for 4 years.  He was also in the Army for about 3 years, receiving an honorable discharge, after being injured in 1989. He met the love of his life, wife Courtney McWilliams-Hastings in 1990,and they had a son together on 02-09-1997 and named him Julian C. Hastings, after John Lennon's first son as they both loved the Beatles.

Doug and Courtney were antique dealers for more than 25 years, also selling antiques Doug online for 12 years. Doug was also a professional photographer, taking the pictures for 2 Beatles collectibles books that he and Courtney wrote together in the late 1990's.He is survived by mother Jane Jurasek, natural father, Wayne Hastings, and Stepfather Jim Jurasek as well as his brothers Rex, and his wife Jennifer, Terry, and his wife Sandi, and Ken Hastings, and his wife Debbie as well as nieces and nephews Christopher, Jessica, Treavor, Tocsha, Teryn, Lynn, Gina, Christina, Elizabeth, and Kenny. He is also survived by cousins, Carol, Susie, Randy, and many other treasured friends and family. His best friend is Richard Ferrini and his wife, Jennifer and their family.

Doug was a devoted family man, who never saw a stranger, and always had a hug and a smile for anyone who wanted them. He was the kindest, sweetest, and gentlest man I ever knew. His laugh could light up a room and just the sound of his voice could make me feel safe and secure. He was also a very spiritual person.

His hobbies were carving, collecting antiques, cookie jars, and advertising, as well as fishing, camping, hiking, traveling, and furniture repair and refinishing. He and Courtney and Julian also enjoyed going to auctions, garage sales, and estate sales.

It was a life-long dream for he and Courtney to go to Venice and take a gondola ride beneath the Bridge of Sighs because of the legend that says that if you kiss your soulmate there it will bind the love you share so that you will remain together for all eternity. We could finish  each others sentences and anticipate what the other was going to say. He was my Aragorn and I was his Arwen.  He gave me the necklace that Arwen wore in the Lord of the Rings movies. When he got really ill I gave it back to him and told him that ,I too, would give up a chance for eternal life for one lifetime with him...He was that special...We swore to be together for this life and whatever comes next. He was my Prince...

He came into my life right after a serious car accident and he took good care of me. Because of his devotion, I was able to recover and get my college degree. He always encouraged everyone around him to pursue their hopes and dreams and he will be sorely missed.
